A small twist to a regular dish always makes it interesting! When I made these beetroot pooris, my family loved the bright colour and taste. Beetroot has a lot of health benefits. I used jowar flour and beetroot powder for this recipe.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a 2 Ltr pressure cooker add all ingredients except jowar flour. Cook for a whistle.
  2. Release pressure and mix in jowar flour. Keep it covered with weight on for 15 minutes.
  3. Open, knead briefly and divide them into small balls.
  4. Roll them into small pooris and deep fry them in oil.

Note:

1. Beetroot puree can also be used. In such case, adjust water accordingly.

  1. Hi, I tried this poori twice. The taste was good, but it came out oily. I did not add beetroot powder, but added fresh beetroot puri, and did adjust the water quantity accordingly, but still it was oily. What could be wrong and what I need to correct?

Can I try the same recipe without beetroot?

I have started trying few of your millet recipes, they are come out very well. Thank you very much for all the wonderful recipes. My son is 3 years old, he loves poori, but he has been told to avoid gluten, hence, this poori and other millet based chapatis/ paratas are really very helpful for me.

If you have any other suggestion for gluten free and healthy pooris, it would be really great.

    1. Hi Gayathri,
Sorry for my late reply. Make sure you add little less water while autolysing. Since i use only beet powder, i don’t face any problem of excess oil as you can see from the picture.
You can completely skip beetroot and instead I suggest you add kasoori methi, carom seeds and turmeric powder. This will also give a nice taste.
Thanks so much for trying other recipes. Please share the pictures so that i can publish them in the FB page.

      1. Yes, I will try with even lesser water next time and will definitely try with kasturi meti and let you know how it came. I will post the pics i have, they were not taken in the view for publishing, but more so to send to my family members and friends to encourage them to try them. If you find them good, you can post it. Henceforth, I will take proper ones and post it.
Thank you once again for the wonderful recipes and your reply 🙂
