Masoor Dal Idli

A bowl of masoor dal can fulfil the nutritional and dietary requirements of an entire meal. It is rich in iron, fibre and protein. It helps to lower sugar levels and cholesterol, helps in weight loss if taken in moderation. This recipe is a perfect blend of millet and masoor dal!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Jowar Grains
  • 1 Cup Idli Rice
  • 1 Cup Masoor Dal
  • 1 /4 Cup Millet flakes/Poha
  • 1 Tsp Fenugreek/Methi Seeds
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tsp Salt

Directions:

  1. Wash and soak all the ingredients together except salt for 4 hours.
  2. Using a blender grind to thick idli batter consistency.
  3. Add salt and ferment for 8 hours or overnight.
  4. Using idli moulds steam idlis.
  5. Serve with chutney/sambar.

Note:

1. Normal rice flakes/poha can also be used instead of millet flakes.

  1. Can we store and use the leftover batter next day ? Or will it lose its fluffiness ?

    And can we use broken wheat instead of jowar ?

      The batter can be stored in fridge and used to make dosas next day.
      I’ve no idea about using broken wheat instead of jowar.
