Millet Handvo

Handvo is a Gujarati dish prepared using rice, dal and veggies. It is baked using a tawa or an oven, but the latter gives more desired results.

Ingredients:

Seasoning
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp white sesame seeds
  • 1/8th tsp hing

Directions:

  1. Wash and soak all lentils and millet for 4 hours.
  2. Drain and blend smooth.
  3. Add curd and allow it to ferment overnight.
  4. Next morning do the seasoning with the oil and keep aside.
  5. Add salt, kasoori methi, lemon juice, sugar, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger green chilli paste, salt, baking soda and give a quick mix.
  6. Pour the batter in a greased mould.
  7. Pour the seasoning over the batter evenly.
  8. Bake at 180 deg C in a preheated oven for 40 minutes.Let it remain in the oven for 10 minutes.
  9. Remove and cool completely.
  10. Demould, cut and serve with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

    Your website has wonderful millet recipes. Thank you for sharing with us.
    Being a Gujarati, I will suggest to add vegetables to Millet Handvo. It is one of the important ingredient. You can add Dudhi-type of gourd, carrot, cabbage, peas, cauliflower etc. It will make handvo soft and one pot recipe.
