Millet Hibiscus Soup

Hibiscus Flowers are known as ''Chembaruththi '' in Tamil. This flower has lot of health benefits. Packed With Antioxidants, it may help lower Blood Pressure, blood fat levels and boost liver health. It also helps in weight loss. Hibiscus Tea is very popular. However, it is not recommended during pregnancy. In this recipe, I have combined millets and hibiscus flowers to make a soup. It was very soothing for the rainy day. Try this unique recipe and enjoy the benefits of this flower once in a while.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Wash and soak millet for 20 minutes, drain. wash the flowers and take only the petals. Discard others.
  2. In a small cooker, add oil and once it is hot sauté onions, garlic and ginger pieces for 30 seconds. Add tomatoes and sauté for another 30 seconds.
  3. Now add the drained millet, salt, petals and beetroot powder and jeera powder. Add 1/2 Cup water and cook for 3 whistles. Let pressure settle down.
  4. With the help of a hand blender, blend everything. Add a cup of water and pepper powder. Cook on medium heat till it froths. Serve hot.

Note:

  • Other millets like Kodo, Little, Barnyard can be used for this recipe.
  • Butter can be used instead of oil.
