Jowar Laddu

Diwali, the festival lights is the time when a variety of sweets are made at home. Laddus are the favourite ones which is prepared  during this festive season. Generally, rava/sooji or lentils are used to make laddus. I tried with jowar flour and never imagined that it will taste just like rava laddus!

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Dry roast the flour on low flame till nice aroma. Switch off.
  2. In a pan, add sugar, water, cardamom powder, food colour and ghee. Once the syrup reaches one string consistency, switch off.
  3. Add the roasted flour, dry fruits and mix well. Keep covered for 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a mixie jar and give a quick run so that everything gets mixed well without any lump.
  5. Make laddus and store in an air tight container.

  1. I am so happy to see your healthy recipes and I have tried a couple and left you thanks and feedback as well.

    I was surprised to see the yellow food coloring in your recipe, Artificial food colors are known neurotoxins and have been banned in Europe. I recommend saffron or other natural food colors for visual appeal.

  2. I tried this yesterday and already more than half of the laddus are over. The laddus came out very well. Since, my son has nut restrictions, I did not add them, hence, at the end, I added additional ghee, to get the consistency to form laddus. Tasted good. Thank you mam for the healthy recipes which makes it possible my son to enjoy all these dishes. If there is a way to use jaggery instead of sugar, please do let me know.

      Did you follow the same measurements for the sugar syrup? One more whistle will make the syrup thick and it will turn the mixture dry. You have to follow exactly the sugar syrup recipe and after 4 whistles the pressure has to be released manually immediately. All these steps are very important.
