Shakkar Para

Cooks in: 30 Minutes Serves: 2 People

Shakkar Para is a snack item generally made during Diwali. Refined flour is mixed with sugar and deep fried. I replaced refined flour with jowar flour.

  • 1/2 Cup Roasted Sooji/Rava Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Jowar Flour
  • 1.5 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/2 tsp White sesame seeds

  1. Mix the rava flour, jowar flour, ghee, salt, sugar, sesame seeds and cardamom powder.
  2. Make a soft dough with milk.
  3. Cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  4. Roll the dough in to 1/2'' thick roti and cut into desired shapes.
  5. Deep fry in oil on medium heat.

  1. Hi Mam,
I tried ur recipe and when i try to deep fry the cut shapes the dough became into powder in the oil itself. Can u please suggest where did i wrong

    1. Hi Parvathi,
Hope you didn’t add extra ghee. If more ghee is added they may disintegrate. Make sure the dough is thick and not very lose.
